The Fight for Mental Health Care Isn't Over - We Urge the House to Reject this Bill
Yesterday, the Senate passed the reconciliation bill that is a betrayal of the American people and the individuals we serve at Mental Health Partnerships. This legislation will push back the decades of progress we’ve made in mental health care.

Yesterday, the Senate passed the reconciliation bill that is a betrayal of the American people and the individuals we serve at Mental Health Partnerships. This legislation will push back the decades of progress we’ve made in mental health care. The number of people who will lose health insurance is horrific, but doesn’t tell the whole story. The real story is the thousands of people in Philadelphia and the surrounding counties who will put off seeing their doctor or mental health professional because they can not afford the copayments. It is the mother who is recovering and currently in intensive treatment who may lose her peer specialist support.
At Mental Health Partnerships, advocacy is in our DNA. We were founded in 1951 by people with lived experiences who fought to ensure that everyone was given services in the community and not institutionalized.
We are deeply disappointed in the United States Senate for pursuing harmful policy under the guise of eliminating fraud and abuse and we ask the House to wholly reject this legislation.
In moments like this, it is important to remember who we are and why we exist.
At Mental Health Partnerships, we fight every day to ensure that every person has access to the mental health care they need and deserve. We will not sit quietly as harmful legislation undermines this basic right.
This is not just about numbers or line items in a budget, this is about human lives. We join in support with every family who is now forced to choose between groceries and mental health care, every individual who fears losing the care that helps them stay stable, and every frontline worker who knows this will make their job harder and even more heartwrenching.
We urge the House to reject this bill and choose people over politics.
Please join us by sending letters/calling our members of congress.
